What is SEO or search engine
optimization?
It is the process of modifying/making a website highly optimal / compatible
with the current search engine’s search requirements. By doing
this you are adding the ability or giving your web site ‘stickiness’
for search engines to index your site more effectively / getting better
ranking – increasing visitor traffic.
What are some top components
for getting traffic to a web site?
Modifying particular areas in a web site will increase it’s
ability to be indexed/ranked better. A good place to start is: Meta
Tags, heading and body content. Content, content, content is key.
Also reciprocal linking is very important.
How do I know if my keywords are the ones I should be using?
One way is see which ones your competition is using. Another way
is to use the Yahoo or Google Adword tools, these tools will give
you some help evaluating them. And of course good old fashion knowledge
of your business.
How do I know if my web site is ready for the search engines?
You’re never going to have a perfect web site, but a good
rule of thumb is to make sure your meta tags are populated with
keywords, you have well written content and relevant reciprocal
links.
What’s more important, the links going out or the ones coming
in?
Links coming to your site is more important, but in order to have
a good mutual link program going you will normally need both, links
going out and coming in.
How do I find the best links?
Again, look at your competitors, if they are worthy enough to
have particular links coming in, you may want to contact the same
companies.
Should I incorporate a blog in my site and do I do start?
Incorporating a blog in your site is an excellent way to keep
your web site fresh and to keep in contact with your customers.
There are several blog programs to use. The best way is to start
is to work with a few, find out which ones you like and slowly incorporate
it in your website.
